Saraswati Foundation organized blood donation and free eye check-up camp on the occasion of International Human Rights Day

In a spirit of community solidarity and health advocacy, Saraswati Foundation and Hamrahi Foundation, in collaboration with International Human Rights and Anti-Crime, organized a Mega Medical Camp on the occasion of International Human Rights Day on December 10 at Stalin Nagar, Upper Bagdogra. This community welfare program featured a blood donation camp, free eye checkup services, and support for the economically weaker sections of society.

The event took place at Stalin Nagar Kalyan Samaj Samiti, Upper Bagdogra, providing vital health services and essential supplies to the local residents. The program included free eye checkups, consultations by the Eye Checkup Team from Lions Eye Hospital and a blood donation drive, spearheaded by the Blood Collection Team from Terai Lions Blood Bank.

Residents from Stalin Nagar, Bagdogra, Kamalpur, Pradhan Nagar, Tarabari, Hatighisha, Diver Basti, Litchu Bagan, Defence Colony, and Khudaram Pally availed themselves of the free eye checkup services. Additionally, youth from the surrounding areas, including some from Nepal, participated in the blood donation campaign.

The impact of the program was significant, with 86 individuals benefiting from the free eye checkup camp and 17 individuals contributing to the blood donation drive. Recognizing the economic challenges faced by some members of the community during the winter season, 80 households were provided with kitchen sets and blankets, while 76 individuals received warm shawls.

The Presidents of Saraswati Foundation, Anita Dahal Sharma, Laxman Sharma, and Team Coordinator Basanta Sharma, played main role in the success of the event. Anita Dahal Sharma reflected on the foundation’s past efforts, stating, “Earlier, we had organized such an event where we distributed blankets and household kitchen sets to people affected during the Teesta Flash Floods.” She emphasized the foundation’s commitment to assisting those working in tea gardens who often struggle to afford warm clothing during the winter.

Laxman Sharma expressed gratitude for the collaborative efforts, stating, “This mega event, where we organized a blood donation camp and offered free eye checkup services, as well as distributed blankets and kitchen sets to the economically weaker section, could not have been possible without the cooperation provided by Stalin Nagar Samaj Kalyan Samiti.” He extended his thanks to the Samiti for their crucial role in making the event a grand success.

Stalin Nagar Samaj Kalyan Samiti Chairman, MP Rai, acknowledged the collective effort, stating, “All these programs have been successful because of everyone’s support.” He specifically thanked Laxman Sharma for spearheading such impactful community welfare events, emphasizing the importance of collective support for the betterment of
the community.

The event stood as a shining example of how coordinated efforts can bring positive change to the lives of individuals and communities in need.
